Taylor - 1920's Inspired Photo Shoot

A few weeks ago I got a message from Dana telling me that she was putting together a 1920's inspired look and was looking to shoot within a few days. She had a model and makeup artist all ready to go and just needed a photographer to complete the team. Working with Dana recently I knew her concept and idea would be a fun experience. We worked with Taylor Edwardson who was our model and Dorothy Alexis Prince for makeup. For the finished look on the images the post processing was meant to give it a slight vintage look and feel, sort of like an old advertisement. Here are a few of the finished images.

Sierra - Bright Colours Photo Shoot

Warmer weather seems to finally have arrived in Vancouver and with that away goes the dull winter colours and out comes the bright bold colours for spring and summer. Here is some recent studio work with model Sierra Kuckein along with the great team of styling, makeup and hair that she put together. Come and see these recent shots plus more at my website bernardngphotography.com

Model Shoot - Brittany

I had the pleasure this past weekend to work with Brittany and also makeup artist Jazmin. Both of them were very professional and fun to work with. I had originally thought about an outdoor shoot but because of the forecast for rain on our shoot day we opted for the studio instead but as luck would have it the better part of the day was actually really sunny. Fortunately though the studio has these huge windows at one end that lets in some amazing natural light when the sun is in the right place. I've been wanting to challenge myself a bit more and leave the safety of the studio and start doing more location lighting and mixing strobes with natural light and ambient light. For part of this session I tried some shots next to the windows and mixed in some fill flash just enough to blend with the natural light but to also get those catch lights in the eyes.

Model Shoot - Erica

This past weekend I had the chance to work with a model, Erica and a hair stylist, Ivy on a photo shoot. Erica has really long flowing hair so we really wanted to highlight that and Ivy did an incredible job giving her just the right amount of curls and bounce. Erica by the way also did her own makeup and is a regular in the Vancouver Fashion Week which happens to be on this week. Below are some shots from our session.

Erica also brought along another model and friend of hers which I will feature in a future post so stay tuned for more.

Model Shoot with Makeup artist

I met a very talented makeup artist by the name of Natalie who brought along a model friend of hers named Carlena to my photo shoot last Sunday. She really got into character as soon as all the makeup was on and within minutes we had some really fun shots with a lot of great expressions. I'll be working again with Natalie and Carlena in a few weeks on a much more elaborate look. Stay tuned. In the meantime here are some shots from our shoot.

Cody Photo Shoot Feb 2009

This was a shoot I did this past weekend with Cody. We've worked together before so I knew we would get some good shots. For these I tried playing a bit with some color using gels on the flashes lighting the backgrounds. This first set I think turned out the best with the green. Not so sure I would use this for shooting a female model but with Cody it works.

There is this really cool red brick wall in the studio so I tried using a red gel to further enhance it and make it look fiery.

Second Shoot at Studio with Venetia and Tim

My second shoot at my new shared studio space was with Venetia and Tim last week and it was a lot of fun working with them. Venetia had mentioned wanting to incorporate a skateboard that she had painted into the shoot. As you can see from the shots below it was done in a fairly playful way and NO she was not really topless behind that skateboard.
